The Uniting Church declares that as part of its core identity, it fully embraces the leadership of women and men.  It is in Covenant with the Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress.  It is a multicultural church.

How did these aspects of our identity come about?  What was the role of key people?  Of advocacy?  Or supportive voices?  To what extent have they actually become a core of our identity.

What can we learn from the above, for the challenge of making our relationship with the rest of Creation a core aspect of our identity, not just in words but in every aspect of our discipleship?

"A church which celebrates women's leadership."  Colleen Geyer is general secretary of the UCA National Assembly, offering leadership and vision to the life of the Assembly.

Amongst many other mission focused leadership roles in the church, Colleen was National Consultant for the Assembly Gospel and Gender Unit. She believes that we have a collective responsibility to look to the future with the hope that is from God, and the realism that calls us to think about the new. (see video of talk)

"A Covenanting Church".  Rev Dr Chris Budden is the Interim National Coordinator of the Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress.  He has a long interest in relationships with Indigenous people, and a commitment to more just ways on being the church in this country.  He wrote Following Jesus in Invaded Space: Doing Theology on Aboriginal Land.  (see video of talk)

"A multicultural church." Fie Marino is a resourcing agent with UME, focusing on opportunities in multicultural contexts, and with second generation leaders, to grow ministry and leadership capacity.  He is an Australian-born Samoan from Melbourne who brings theological insight, strategic vision and organising capacity, as well as a contagious passion for the work of the Uniting Church in Australia.

"A Green church."  Dr Miriam Pepper co-founded the Uniting Eco Group, and shared the lead of Uniting Earth for its first three years.  She is a researcher at NCLS Research and research fellow at Australian Catholic University.  She has a long standing passion for sustainable living as practitioner and activist, and co-authored a study into the level of engagement of the Uniting Church with ecological issues from 2000-2010 (download pdf)

"A moderator's eye view."  Rev. Myung Hwa Park, in perhaps her final moderatorial duty, will offer her perspectives on how well the Uniting Church has incorporated the above aspects into the core of our story, based on her experiences as moderator over the last three years.  Myung Hwa has a longstanding passion for ecotheology and ecospirituality.
