Uniting Staff

At Uniting, we believe that everyone deserves a safe climate future. We are standing with our young leaders, the disadvantaged, our Pacific neighbours, future generations, to say that the time for real climate action is now!

We have achieved 25% emissions reductions in the last decade, and committed to 50% reductions by 2030.  That isn't enough to save the planet though, so we are calling on government to make the policies which will enable the whole nation to reach 65% by 2030.  Rallying with other on September 20th is part of that call.

Everyone is needed. Come along and show your support!

Garth Quinn, Recruitment Lead

“I think it’s vitally important that as citizens of the earth we think about what we’re leaving for our kids. As a dad to a four-year old boy it becomes more and more real to me. When you think about all the work we do here at Uniting – our commitment to making the world a better place, it would be a real disservice if we don’t take action because climate is having, and will continue to have huge impacts on society, putting more and more people at risk.”

Sally Bassett, Property Development Manager

“I’m attending the strike to show the government and others that there’s strong support for much more significant action on climate change than is currently occurring in Australia. This is important because the science shows that without significant action the planet is facing a period of catastrophic disruption.”

Jill Reich, Director Customer People and Systems

“I’m getting involved because it’s important to build a sustainable future for our children.”

Jason John, Uniting Earth Advocate

"I'm thrilled that Uniting is taking a leadership role in tackling emissions, but we need a nation-wide revolution in our fossil-fuel dependent energy system.  Only mass mobilisation will cut the fossil-fuel umbilical cord which so influences government policy"

Tina Rendell-Thornton, Service Delivery Lead – Children, Youth and Families

“I love my children and grandson and I have worked hard to support their future. Climate change and pollution will affect every aspect of their lives. It’s time to be bold and support the next generation in their call for a sustainable future filled with more hope and less suffering.”

Simon Geraghty, WHS Systems & Reporting Manager

“Climate change is the most important existential threat, not only to humanity, but to the planet. It will affect future generations the most. The need for significant action is urgent.”
